The Gold Coast offers some of the most diverse fishing in SEQ. The Broadwater and Coomera River are home to bream, flathead, and whiting year-round, while the Gold Coast Seaway produces jewfish, trevally, and tailor. Jumpinpin is a premier flathead and bream destination, and the offshore reefs on the 24-fathom and 36-fathom lines deliver snapper, pearl perch, and mackerel. Our Gold Coast fishing report covers the Broadwater, Nerang River, Coomera River, Seaway walls, Jumpinpin Bar, Tallebudgera Creek, and Currumbin Creek.
Moreton Bay is the heart of SEQ fishing. The shallow banks at Amity and Chain Banks are famous for whiting, the islands — Mud, Peel, St Helena and Green — hold snapper, bream and squid, and the deeper channels produce jewfish and trevally. Our Moreton Bay fishing report covers all bay islands, the Pearl Channel, Hutchies Shoal, the bay flats, and the surrounding river mouths.
From the Caloundra bar to Noosa Heads, the Sunshine Coast delivers world-class fishing. Mooloolaba rock wall is one of SEQ's best tailor and bream spots, Caloundra's bar entrance is prime jewfish territory, and the offshore reefs at the 12 Mile, 5 Mile and Barwon Banks produce outstanding snapper, pearl perch and mackerel. The Mooloolah River, Maroochy River and Currimundi Creek offer excellent estuary fishing for bream, flathead and mangrove jack. Point Cartwright and Coolum headland are top spots for longtail tuna and spotted mackerel.
The Noosa River is arguably SEQ's best all-round estuary — from the legendary golden trevally run at Woods Bay to quality bream at Cod Hole and flathead on the Tewantin flats. Laguna Bay off Noosa Heads is a top longtail tuna destination. The Brisbane River, meanwhile, is an underrated urban fishery producing bull sharks, jewfish, bream and mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and creek mouths from the river mouth to Oxley Creek.
Pumicestone Passage around Bribie Island is whiting heaven — pump yabbies on the low tide and fish the rising for quality sand whiting and yellowfin whiting. Redcliffe and Scarborough jetties produce bream, squid and trevally year-round and are great family spots. North Stradbroke Island's Point Lookout is elite for pelagics — longtail tuna, mackerel, and tailor from the rocks — while Amity Point offers sheltered estuary fishing for flathead and bream. We also cover Hervey Bay, Fraser Island, and freshwater dams like Hinze, Somerset, Wivenhoe and Maroon.
